Voice over IP has revolutionized the telecommunications industry, but some in the VoIP world are still locked into a centralized model, where the telcos (or their new VoIP equivalents) control how you connect to your peers.
In this talk, I'll discuss various technical pieces of making federated VoIP work (and work well). I'll discuss the SIP protocol, how to setup SIP for your domain, SIP proxies, back-to-back user agents, and various VoIP clients for both the desktop and mobile devices.
